I dunno about you, but I am not looking forward to the rugby world cup. Auckland has pretty rubbish transport infrastructure at the best of times, so pouring all those extra people into the city is not going to make it any better. We have a government who won't admit that we need the inner city rail loop. That seem convinced that spending money on roads is the answer to making Auckland a more "livable city". Sure we have trains, but only 3 lines meaning huge parts of the city do not get this public transport option. Now tonight I see on TV, that they are hoping at least 3000 people will not use public transport from the stadium, but instead make the 40 minute walk into town. Is this the point where people start to wonder whether Eden Park was the best place to have the "main ground"? While we are on the world cup, I see that also there is pressure to allow people on the Fiji travel ban list in with the Fiji rugby team. Yup, sure, let's overturn a long standing diplomatic stand off, because there is a few games of rugby on. Honestly, sometimes I think 1981 never happened.......

Lastly, if we loose, and let's face it we could very easily, we are going to have to put up with the witch hunt, the beating of the chest, the national mourning. Quite frankly it is going to be painful.

How's that for a rant?
